Treating Colds and Coughs
Springtime colds and COVID are circulating and we wanted to remind people to stay home and rest if they have active cold symptoms. We do not see people with active cold symptoms, but we do have plenty of suggestions for looking after yourself at home. You can find acupressure points and uses on our Resources page here. We love our Golden Lotus lozenges and most of our friends and families use these as a primary treatment when they have a cold. We sell them at our clinic for $6 a bag. You can also find them online.
We also love Pear Tea Soup. This is beneficial for your lungs, and is especially helpful for sore throat and dry coughs. Here is our favorite recipe:
Pear Tea for Healthy Lungs
6-8 cups filtered water
3-4 pears, sliced
2-3 cinnamon sticks
3-4 Star Anise pods
Ginger slicesBring to a boil and then gently simmer for 10-15 minutes. About half way through, you can add licorice root ( or 3 licorice tea bags). You can also add some lemon and raw local honey at the end. Drink the broth, eat the pears. Delicious!
Fundraising Drive
Thank you to everyone who has so kindly donated to our fundraising drive. We’ve raised $1,500 so far. Your donations help keep our clinic running smoothly and our fees low. If you’d like to donate, click here. We are a 501c3 nonprofit.
Bodyworker News
Welcome Meghan!
Meghan completed a 675 hours program from the Asheville School of Massage and Yoga in 2016 and has been working as a bodyworker since. Whether in private practice, spas, or in community care work, their primary modalities are Swedish, deep tissue, myofascial, and trigger point therapy. In a session with Meghan you can expect a balance between long relaxing strokes to help the nervous system come down from a heightened place and more specific targeted work to relieve adhesions or trigger points.
Regular massage, whether seasonal or biweekly, can be really transformative to our relationships, focus, muscle tension, and mood. Meghan’s approach aims to be a blend of deep listening, anatomical knowledge, and trauma informed care.
You can read more about Meghan here and here and some notes about accessibility.
Meghan can be reached by phone (504) 444-9442 or email stclaudemassage@gmail.com
